Lynn Munro

Hi my name is Lynn Munro aged 68 and a lover of all things Triathlon or Duathlon related, my greatest pleasure is being out on my bike riding around Northumberland.

I’m thrilled to be asked back again after having been an Ambassador for the 2019 Duathlon and then last year for the Triathlon, which like every other race sadly didn’t happen. But we’re back this year positive and looking forward to it.

As with everyone, it’s been a funny old year and although no Real Life Races we’ve all kept ourselves busy racing and competing in the virtual world. Not quite the same but it kept us all sane and motivated during one lockdown after another.

I’m very lucky to represent Team GB Age Group in Duathlon and just did my first race in over a year and managed to qualify to go to the 2022 World Championships in Australia. I’ve continued to train all the way through but this last lockdown has been so hard what with freezing cold weather and the uncertainty of what was going to happen.

As far a Triathlon is concerned we’ve only been pool swimming for 4 weeks and open water swimming for a couple of weeks. The water is ffffffrezing( think ice cream brain freeze x10) .

So it’s making training for me extra difficult and managed to bring back all my open water fears again! Hopefully being an Ambassador is going to help motivate me and keep me focused on the job in hand.

Pushing yourself to your absolute extreme although scary at the time leaves you with immense satisfaction, boosts your confidence, moral and self esteem.

After a year of no racing some may have lost some of our competitive streak, but just knowing we are able to be on the start line again and take part in this amazing event on the Iconic Newcastle Quayside, should be enough to get us back up and running.

So hope you all ready to enter and compete in one of the most atmospheric exciting race experiences. Nothing like a Geordie crowd to cheer you on.

     Lynn
