    About Try On The Tyne

Cintra Try on the Tyne returns for 2020!

With a NEW Family Focused Fitness Event

Join in the summer of sport when you come and TRY our fabulous event on the stunning NewcastleGateshead Quayside! As well as returning favourites of the 5K, 10K, Sprint Duathlon and Junior events, this year we have a BRAND NEW Sprint and Super-Sprint Triathlon on Saturday 22nd August. Starting with a swim in Leazes Park Lake, followed by a bike route through the city centre and finishing this iconic course with a run along the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside. The runs and duathlon start in Baltic Square in Gateshead, taking in a selection of the Tyne’s famous bridges, all on completely closed roads.

There is something for everyone, from those beginning their triathlon journey, to those chasing a PB in the runs, with a sprint duathlon to complete the exciting events on offer. We are also delighted to announce that Paula’s Families on Track powered by Atom Bank will also be taking place on Sunday 23rd August.  Don’t miss this innovative new running concept.

    • Electronic chip timing
    • Fully closed roads
    • T-shirt, medal and goody-bag for all finishers
    • FREE finisher photos
    TRIATHLON

Super Sprint or Sprint - A Super-sprint triathlon involves a 400m swim, a 10k bike section and then a 3km run, while the distances in a Sprint triathlon are 750m, 20k and 5k. The swim will be in Leazes Park, and the bike route will go through the city centre and continue onto the quayside, giving all the opportunity to TRY a Tri in an inspiring location.

    DUATHLON

Sprint - Closed roads give you the opportunity to TRY a duathlon beginning with a 5k run, 20k bike and 3K run. The stunning city backdrop and iconic quayside location should inspire everyone, with a mass start in Baltic Square creating a fantastic atmosphere.

    RUN

5K or 10K - this is your chance to TRY the distance for the first time, or maybe improve your best so far on this exciting course. Run with friends and celebrate with brunch afterwards! Its flat, fast and the crowds will cheer you the whole way.

STATEMENT FROM EVENTS OF THE NORTH REGARDING COVID-19

“In response to the current and evolving situation around COVID-19, or coronavirus, Events of the North would like to state that in line with recent government and local authority advice, we are currently still planning to host the Sunderland City Runs weekend from 9-10th May.

“We are constantly monitoring what is obviously a fast-moving situation and are making contingency plans if required. We will provide updates as the situation develops, and will notify our entrants of any changes to our 2020 events as soon as we are able.

“If government advice changes in the coming weeks, we have already had discussions with Sunderland City Council and plans are in place to hold the Sunderland City Runs weekend on a date later this year. In light of any event change, all entries booked up until the date of postponement will be valid for the new date.

“The wellbeing of our participants, volunteers, general public, or members of our own staff is our main priority, particularly with events planned across the country.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
